Description
Rare Box of Antique Rifle Ammunition by Sharps.Full box of .50 caliber Sharps rifle ammunition. A very early box of .50-70 paper-patched Sharps cartridges. This extremely rare example is thought to date to 1868-1870. According to Ray Giles, author of "One Hundred Years of Winchester Cartridge Boxes 1856-1956" there are fewer than 20 of these boxes known to exist. Period hand corrections to quantity and caliber. Black on tan Sharps Hartford box. In plastic.
Condition: Very good to fine. Some scuffs and staining to lid. Light soiling. Some wrinkling to pasteboard. Tape repairs to base.
