Description

Gene Cernan Notes the "Lunar Dust" on this Apollo 17 Cue Card.

Apollo 17 Lunar Module Flown Go/No-Go Cue Card Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Gene Cernan covered with lunar dust. This 7" x 9.25" printed cardstock page was flown to the surface of the moon on the LM Challenger. It is titled "MISSION RULES NO-GO'S" on the front (vertically) and "ALARM CODES (PDI)" on the verso (horizontally) that has a 0.75" x 1.5" piece of Velcro attached (for mounting to the control panel or wall). Both sides are streaked with gray lunar dust, especially the front where Captain Cernan has certified and signed: "Flown to Lunar Surface Apollo XVII Gene Cernan 'Lunar Dust'". The front of the card has a printed date "9/14/72" and the verso, "10/5/72". The information on this type of card could literally make the difference between a successful or a failed mission. The astronauts received intense and thorough training but still relied on these cue cards when events were happening quickly during mission-critical periods. Extremely fine condition.
