Description

Apollo 17 Command Module Flown Flight Plan, Volumes I and II, Both Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Gene Cernan. Two separate books, each one is 8.5" x 10.5", printed on cardstock, and bound between two heavier boards with three binder rings. In total, there are well over 250 pages. Printed on the front of each is the Part No. "SKB32100123-355 (or 356)" and the Serial Number "1001". Cernan has certified and signed each: Volume I- "Flown to the Moon Apollo XVII Gene Cernan" and Volume II- "Flown on Apollo XVII Gene Cernan". These are absolutely fascinating and historically significant documents. The crew used these books constantly and there are literally hundreds of notes, comments, and calculations throughout. This was their minute-by-minute instruction manual for the first seven+ days of the mission. During the period in which the LM was on the moon, both LM and CSM flight plans are shown on each two-page spread. A rare offering of such an important part of our country's space exploration history. Very fine condition.

Not all the handwritten comments are strictly mission-related. Someone has made ink notations on the timeline where Commander Cernan made his "speeches". For example: at the very top of the first page- "CERNAN'S LIFTOFF SPEECH"; forty hours into the mission- "CERNAN'S HOUSEKEEPING SPEECH"; at ninety-three hours- "CERNAN'S DOI SPEECH"; etc.
