Description
Henri Becquerel Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 4.75" x 7.25", n.p., November 14, 1896. The French physicist, most noted for assisting Marie and Pierre Curie in the discovery of radioactivity, pens this letter in French seven years before winning the Nobel Prize in Physics. In part, "What I feared might happen, has happened. This morning I received notice of a convocation of the Education Committee of the Polytechnic School on Tuesday, the 17th, at two o'clock. The order of the day calls for the presentation of candidates for the position of Professor of Design. I am notifying you at once, but unfortunately, as I told you, I shall not be in Paris that day. . . . Perhaps . . . a vote will not be taken that day and they will do nothing but name a committee." The letter was sent to an unknown recipient. Toned paper.Auction Info
