Description
U.S. Flag Carried to the Moon on Apollo 16. Color photograph of Charles Duke saluting the U.S. flag on the moon, 9.75" x 7.75", and 6" x 4" U.S. flag affixed to a 19.25" x 15.25" board. The flag is captioned: "This flag carried to the moon aboard Apollo 16 during the first scientific exploration of the lunar highlands, April 16-27, 1972." Inscribed on the mat "To Joe Garino: With sincere thanks for all/ your help at the gym. There wasn't one/ arrhythmia./ Charlie Duke," also signed "John Young" and "Ken Mattingly." Light spotting on the mat. An Apollo 16 patch and a printed Descartes quote are affixed at the lower right. Apollo 16 landed in the moon's Descartes Highlands. Young and Duke walked on the moon. Flags that have traveled the 500,000 miles to and from the moon are rare and extremely desirable. Framed to 21.5" x 17.25". From the collection of renowned former physical trainer of the astronauts Joe Garino. This lot is accompanied by a signed certificate of authentication from Garino verifying its provenance.Auction Info
