Good Behavior.
New York: Mysterious Press [for Neiman-Marcus], [1985]. First edition, limited to 1,000 numbered copies.
Signed by the author both in the book and on a bookplate.
Publishers black cloth, lettered in copper. Fine in original slipcase.
Neiman-Marcus contracted with the Mysterious Press for this special limited edition for Christmas sales through their catalogue and stores. It was scheduled to precede Mysterious Press's own trade edition by some eight months. After the edition was printed and bound, it was found that the Neiman-Marcus name was incorrectly spelled on the limitation leaf, though correctly spelled on the copyright page and binding. Rather than allow correction of the edition with a cancel limitation statement (an example is laid in), Neiman-Marcus ordered the edition destroyed, with the exception of 26 lettered copies and the first ten numbered copies. This is copy 'x' of the lettered copies, and has the corresponding lettered cancel colophon pasteover laid in. These thirty-six copies are ostensibly the only remaining copies of the true first printing of the first edition.
