"This carte-de-visite, bearing an image of Lincoln by famed photographer Matthew Brady, is the first signed Lincoln photo we've ever handled, and it's a real beauty," enthused Tom Slater, Director of HSA.

Indeed, his autograph, particularly on a photograph, has been in demand so long that, as early as the 19th century, forging Lincoln signatures became a virtual cottage industry.
