Description
Space Shuttle Air Data Probe Actuator. A large (24" x 15" x 8.5" overall) piece of sophisticated hardware, one of which was mounted on each side of the shuttle at the forward lower fuselage. It would deploy the air data probes after the shuttle entered the atmosphere in the early part of the landing phase, rotating them from within the housing into the air stream; the probe was mounted on the flat surface between the insulation blocks. These probes are used to sense air pressure related to the shuttle's movement in the atmosphere. The plate attached has the following information: "ACTUATOR- AIR DATA SENSOR PROBE/ Part Number A1045A010-2/ Rockwell Control Number MC147-0012-0002" It also lists the date of manufacture as June 26, 1976 and the Contract Number as NAS9-14000. There are numerous stamped numbers and inspector marks. This item originally cost NASA $36,891.28. Maybe you'll get a bargain! Excellent condition.Auction Info
