Description

Civil Rights: Little Rock Nine "Photo Essay" by Elizabeth Eckford. 20" x 13" modern black & white photo enlargement depicting Elizabeth Eckford on her way to Little Rock Central High School, during the integration crisis of 1957. She is jeered and intimidated by a hostile crowd of white spectators. Writing in silver ink, Eckford relates the harrowing events of September 4, 1957, including her efforts to reach the school entrance, running the gauntlet of Arkansas National Guard and local citizens hostile to her. A reporter's attempt to give her advice, encouragement and comfort only served to whip up the mob. Sold together with a color laser photocopy of Eckford writing the essay presented her.

Condition: Excellent.
