Description

Decorated 19th Century Japanese Boxlock Percussion Belt Pistol.

Unserialized, approximately .47 caliber, 6 3/4-inch round barrel. The barrel is decorated with floral zogan inlays, some rendered in solid brass [hira-zogan] and others as fine wire outlines [sen-zogan]. Figured one-piece walnut grip. Ramrod present. 3 1/2-inch belt flat to the left of boxlock. Interesting to note; by the mid-19th century, Japanese gunsmiths were experimenting with Western-style percussion firearms, sometimes converting matchlocks or replicating European belt pistols.

Condition: Good to very good for its age and type. Metal parts, a mellow gray patina with darker balance to triggerguard and frontstrap area. Grip with light wear, minor scuffs present. Screw missing, top of grip/tang area. Action good, bore dark.
