Description

Joe Kittinger Signed Color Photo of His Record Parachute Jump. An 8" x 10" glossy photo on Fujicolor Crystal Archive paper of him leaving the balloon gondola. Signed in black felt tip: "Aim High/ Joe W. Kittinger". Excellent.

Kittinger was the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon. During his involvement with Project Excelsior, he made three extreme-altitude parachute jumps from helium balloons. The last and highest took place on August 16, 1960, when he jumped from 102,800 feet, free-falling for four minutes and sixteen seconds, and reaching a maximum speed of 614 mph. The entire descent lasted thirteen minutes and forty-five seconds. When Felix Baumgartner broke his record in 2012, Kittinger was his capsule communicator.
