Description
Apollo 12 Crew-Signed Launch Cover. A philatelic cover with a 6¢ "Apollo 8" stamp affixed, hand-canceled at Kennedy Space Center on November 14, 1969, the day this mission launched. It bears a desirable KSC rubber-stamped cachet at lower right. At left, the names of the crew have been typed vertically where the astronauts have all neatly signed in various inks: "Charles Conrad Jr.", "Richard Gordon", and "Alan L Bean". Unaddressed. Excellent. Included, for purposes of display or matting, is a glossy color print of the crew posed in white flight suits.Apollo 12 was the second crewed mission to land on the Moon and demonstrated the precision landing capabilities essential for future lunar exploration. Commanded by Charles "Pete" Conrad with Richard Gordon and Alan Bean, the mission achieved a pinpoint landing near the Surveyor III spacecraft in the Ocean of Storms. This success allowed astronauts to retrieve parts from the unmanned lander, providing valuable data on the effects of long-term exposure to the lunar environment. Apollo 12 proved that NASA could land with accuracy, greatly expanding the scientific potential of subsequent missions. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
