Description
Wells Fargo Signed American Express Company Stock Certificate. One partially printed page, 12 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches, New York; July 7, 1865.Four shares of the American Express Company purchased by "Charles S. Kimball of New York" at $500 per share. Signed by Henry Wells as President. Countersigned by his partner, William G. Fargo as Secretary and Alex Holland as Treasurer. Cancelled in blue pencil across the center of the document and at signatures. Signed by Kimball on the verso with notice of transfer to "A Mulligan."
[Together with:] E. P. Ross Signed Merchants Union Express Company Stock Certificate. One partially printed page, 12 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches, New York; November 8, 1867.
Ten shares of the Merchants Union Express Company purchased by "J. H. Paine of Saginaw Mich" at $100 per share. Signed by E. P. Ross as President and countersigned by J. N. Knapp as Secretary. Cancelled with two holes punched at each signature. On the verso, a printed statement for the appointment of an attorney to act on behalf of the stockholder.
Condition: American Express certificate with light, uneven toning; some edgewear, including small chips and short tears; remnants of red wax at bottom edge; docketed on the verso in pencil and ink. Merchants Union certificate with moderate toning, darker near the edges; minor edgewear, including a few light creases and small chips; docketed on the verso.
