Description

Strands of George A. Custer's Hair. Small plastic sleeve (2 x 2 inches) containing nine snippets of hair, affixed onto a certificate of authenticity issued by John Reznikoff to an overall size of 8 1/2 x 11 inches.

Before Major General George Custer left Fort Abraham Lincoln on his last campaign, his wife Libbie had a dream of him being scalped by Indians. Believing cutting his hair short would reduce that risk, Custer cut his hair at her insistence. Those locks were given to Libbie and subsequently passed down through his descendants. The strands offered here came from a lock presented to Custer's nephew James Calhoun Custer.

Condition: Fine.
