Description

Numbered Insignia of the French Military Mission to Poland with the Army of General Haller, Associated with Captain Charles de Gaulle, Circa 1920.

Insignia of the French Military Mission to Poland attached to the army of General Józef Haller, associated with the service of Captain Charles de Gaulle, circa 1920. This type of badge relates to the French advisory mission sent to organize and train the Polish Army during the Polish-Soviet War (1919-1921), the conflict in which the newly independent Polish state resisted Soviet expansion, in which de Gaulle served as an instructor and staff officer. The insignia features a crowned Polish eagle mounted on a diamond-shaped backing, measures approximately 53 x 36 mm, and is of two-piece construction, retaining its screw-back fastening. The reverse is stamp numbered "254," consistent with other known examples of this rare mission-related badge.

Condition: Light tarnishing with smooth wear to the high spots.
