Description

Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword.

Sword measuring 39-inches overall, with a straight 32 7/8-inch blade of spear-point form, double-edged, and cut with a single fuller extending approximately 6 inches on each side. The blade shows the practical, serviceable character of its type, with no maker's marks present. The hilt is of the typical Scottish brass baskethilt design, but notably executed without piercings, decorative engraving, or chiseling, giving it a distinctly utilitarian character. The grip retains remnants of its original wrap, though all of the wire binding is missing, leaving only the spiral grooves where it was once seated. Please note: Scottish basket hilted swords were produced in a wide range of qualities, from finely pierced and engraved examples intended for officers and gentlemen, to plain, undecorated hilts made for practical use in the field.

Condition: Good overall. Blade exhibits moderate wear with areas of pitting and surface oxidation. The brass hilt shows honest age, with moderate wear and a dark, mellow tone developed through use and handling. Grip shows losses as noted, though form remains intact.
