Description

Apollo 10 Crew-Signed Launch Cover. A philatelic cover bearing a 6¢ "Waterfowl Conservation" stamp at left hand-canceled at Orlando, FL Kennedy Space Center BR, dated May 18, 1969, the day that Apollo 10 was launched. There is a small KSC rubber-stamped mission insignia at bottom. On the right side, the names of the crew have been typed vertically where the astronauts have all neatly signed in black felt tip: "Tom Stafford", "John Young", and "Gene Cernan". Not common. Unaddressed. Excellent. Included, for purposes of display or matting, is a glossy color print of the crew posed in white spacesuits.

Apollo 10, launched on May 18, 1969, was a full dress rehearsal for the first lunar landing. It marked the first time the complete Apollo spacecraft, Command/Service Module Charlie Brown and Lunar Module Snoopy, flew to the Moon together. Astronauts Thomas Stafford, John Young, and Eugene Cernan tested all components of a lunar landing mission except the actual landing itself. The Lunar Module descended to within 8.4 nautical miles of the Moon's surface, validating navigation, communication, and control systems. The mission's success was crucial in proving the readiness of all systems and procedures, directly paving the way for Apollo 11's historic landing two months later. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
