Description

Apollo 13 Crew-Signed U.S. Navy Recovery Force Cover from the U.S.S. New Orleans [with] Color Photo. A philatelic cover with a rubber-stamped U.S. Navy Pacific Recovery Force cachet. It bears a 6¢ "Maine Statehood" stamp and is hand-canceled on the splashdown date of February 9, 1971, aboard the New Orleans. All three crewmembers have signed on the front: "Alan Shepard", "Ed Mitchell", and "Stuart A Roosa". Included, for purposes of display or matting, is a glossy 8" x 10" color print of the crew as they departed the rescue helicopter aboard the ship. Address label. Excellent.

Apollo 14 marked the United States' third successful lunar landing, with Shepard and Mitchell exploring the Fra Mauro Highlands while Roosa orbited the Moon in the Kitty Hawk. The recovery ship USS New Orleans retrieved the command module Kitty Hawk upon splashdown in the Pacific. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke
