The map depicts the roads, settlements, ranches and roads taken by Dr. Wislizenus (1810-1889), as part of Doniphan's Expedition. The group set out from Independence, Missouri, along the Santa Fe Trail with Albert Speyer, merchant and rumored gunrunner, unaware that war had been declared between Mexico and the United States. The group was captured and imprisoned for several months. After being released, Wislizenus joined Colonel Alexander Doniphan and his 1st Regiment of Missouri Mounted Volunteers as a surgeon on their return to the United States. This map was originally issued in Wislizenus's Memoir of a Tour to Northern Mexico, published in 1848.

Condition: Not examined out of frame. Lightly toned with smoothed folds.
