Zischagge Lobster-Tailed Pot Helmet.. ...
Description
Zischagge Lobster-Tailed Pot Helmet.Lobster-tail helmet, constructed of iron with a blackened finish throughout. The fluted skull is forged in one piece, fitted with the iconic multi-lame neck defense of five articulated plates, known as the lobster tail; ending in a pointed termination making it possibly continental. The hinged ear guards attached to leather straps via rivets have a heart-shape cutout and pierced ventilation. The visor is secured to the skull and fitted with a sliding nasal bar passage with heart-shape fastener (sliding nasal bar missing). Rolled edges reinforce the visor and tail. No interior cloth lining present. Note: These type of lobster-tailed pot helmets (also called a zischagge), commonly used by cavalry in the 17th century, especially by cuirassiers and harquebusiers.
Condition: Very good as presented, with scattered areas of heavier patination, minor bruising, and small surface marks consistent with age and use. Some touch ups present. The replacement leather straps show heavy wear with some losses and crazing, though largely intact.
