Civil War: Post-War Massachusetts Service Certificate. 21" x 16.5" engraved certificate, titled "Commonwealth of Massachusetts", Boston, April 19, 1870, issued to Frederick L. Gates, Company B, 25th Infantry, with printed signatures of the Governor and Adjutant General. Housed in deeply recessed wood frame with gilt liner. Moderate toning with board burn, as shown. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.
