[Ronphile] Saint-Andre, Pierre de,[Jean-Antoine Rampalle] attrib. La Chyromantie Naturelle De Ronphile. Lyon: Antoine Jullieron,1666. 12mo. a8, A4, B-E8. [16], 78p. 1/2 calf over cloth boards; t.p. soiled, corner off t.p. (with slight loss to one letter; trimmed close at fore-edge with some letters trimmed , some trace of bent corners at upper right margin, light dampstain. 2 full-page engraved cheiromantic hands, tables, head-pieces, printerÕs device on t.p. Lacks the six added plates at the end.We have no information for the attributed author -- Ronphile, but the preface is signed by Rampalle and most authorities assume he is the author. However, there has been some question as to which Rampalle this is. The most common early attribution is to Rampalle (1624-1671), the definiteur-general of the Carmes-Dechausses, professor of philosophy and theology and author of several books on the history of his order. He was called Pierre de Saint-Andre in his order. The BN catalogues the book as his.
Halbronn attributes the work to a different Pierre de Saint-Andre (1524-1585).
Hoefer gives Nicolas de Rampalle a.k.a. Daniel de Rampalle (c1603-1660) French poet, literary critic and translator, as the author. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.
