Description
Rare and Early Colonial or Revolutionary War Eaglehead Officer's Sword, ca. 1770-1790. 22 1/2-inch single edge straight blade, with single narrow fuller, marking on both sides of blade with primitive running fox motif, all brass eaglehead pommel with solid and heavy smooth brass grips, square-shaped brass knucklebow, with deep fluted edges, crossguard of similar styling with fluted motifs, the straight and fluted quillon branch terminating in an acorn. Small brass identification tag of Steve D'Arrigo marked "39." Early and rare variant of the Federal period, with massive eagle and in classic Philadelphia style.Condition: Good to very good with age wear and patina. Blade with scattered light staining and fine sharpening marks as well some fine pitting. One nick on edge. Guard and grip with handling wear light scratches.
