Description

Skylab: Group of Thirteen Vintage Color Transparencies Directly from the Collection of NASA Photo Expert J. L. Pickering. A large group of vintage 4" x 5" NASA color transparencies documenting Skylab, the United States' first space station, and its manned missions (1973-1974). Among the images are: Panoramic aerial view of the Skylab launch vehicle (Saturn V) on its crawler-transporter en route to the launch pad at Kennedy Space Center; Crew members in tan flight coveralls during pre-mission briefing or training activity; Astronaut in a spacesuit during Skylab-era EVA training indoors, fitted with life-support and umbilical connections; Skylab Saturn launch showing the vehicle ascending, and many others. This set captures Skylab's ambitious efforts as America transitioned from the Apollo lunar landings to long-duration space habitation. With both launch vehicle imagery and astronaut training/crew portraits, the lot is a desirable collection spanning preparation, liftoff, and crew identity during NASA's first space station program. Very fine.
