Description

Mercury-Atlas 7 (Aurora 7): Fifteen Vintage Glossy Finish Photos of Carpenter and Schirra in Training, all from the Personal Archives of NASA Legend Bill Taub. Fifteen B&W photos ranging in size from 7.25" x 10 to 10"x 8" (some slightly smaller depending on trim) of Scott Carpenter and backup Wally Schirra. The flight was originally intended for Deke Slayton, but was given to Carpenter when Slayton was grounded for cardiac dysrhythmia. Schirra would have his turn in a Mercury capsule shortly afterwards. Interesting images of the two during water training. Overall very fine.

NOTE: The photos from this archive were the inspiration for the recent book by J. L. Pickering and John Bisney, Photographing America's First Astronauts, Project Mercury Through the Lens of Bill Taub. A beautiful book from the Purdue University Press. Highly recommended. From the Collection of J. L. Pickering
