Gemini 4: Rare Crew-Signed U.S.S. Wasp Recovery Cover also Signed by Ship's Commanding Officer. An Airmail philatelic cover featuring a stamped "U.S. Navy Recovery Force" cachet, bearing an 8¢ "Robert Goddard" stamp with a machine U.S.S. Wasp cancelation. There is a black felt tip autopen signature of McDivitt across the cachet. Authentically signed: "James A. McDivitt", "Edward H White II", and "James W. Conger/ Commanding, USS Wasp (CV518)". Addressed. Excellent. Included, for purposes of display or matting, is a glossy color print of White's EVA.NASA's Gemini 4 mission was a critical milestone in the U.S. space program as it marked the first American spacewalk, performed by astronaut Ed White, demonstrating the feasibility of extravehicular activity essential for future missions. The mission also tested extended human endurance in space with a four-day duration, providing valuable data on the effects of longer spaceflights on astronauts. Gemini 4's achievements laid foundational groundwork for the Apollo program's lunar ambitions by advancing spacecraft maneuvering and astronaut operational capabilities in orbit.
