[x], 234, [4, blank] pages. With frontispiece and three illustrated leaves inserted throughout. Publisher's full brown embossed paper boards, spine stamped in silver. In the original publisher's dust jacket. Spine of binding a bit toned and bumped, some rubbing to boards, small neat area of sticker residue on half-title. Jacket has a few tape repairs to verso, jacket spine sunned, some rubbing, mild soiling and wear to jacket, with a few short tears. Very good.

This is P. D. James' first non-fiction work. Critchley is a highly-regarded police historian and wrote many books on the subject.
