Two first editions, one colonial edition, all signed or inscribed by the author. Violet Tweedale. Unsolved Mysteries. London: Digby, Long, & Co., [1895]. First edition. Octavo. 197 x 130 mm. 98, [2, blank] pages + 8 pages of publisher's ads, dated December 1895. Inscribed by the author to title, "To Clary / first-copy out. 6th Dec. 95." Publisher's red pictorial cloth stamped in gold and blue, with gilt lettering to upper cover and spine and floral light green endpapers. Light edgewear, corners somewhat bumped, soiled, some bubbling, a few indentations to fore-edge, head and tail pushed, some rubbing to gilt titling, spine sunned. Text block edges toned and foxed, all edges untrimmed, hinges starting, endpapers toned, foxed throughout. Very good.

[Together With:] Violet Tweedale. The Unholy Alliance. London: John Long, Limited, [1914]. Colonial edition, in a married dust jacket. Octavo. 195 x 135 mm. 320 pages. Publisher's red cloth ruled in blind, with black titling to upper board and spine, recased. Minimal edgewear, head and tail just pushed, faint staining along joints, light soiling along board edges. Text block edges toned and foxed, fore-edge and bottom edge untrimmed. Pages foxed throughout. Signed by the author to the front free endleaf recto. Dust jacket torn, but complete, with spine detached from the front and rear flaps, some losses to head and tail affecting rear panel and spine title; some chipping and crinkling along edges, generally toned, spine sunned. Very good book in fair dust jacket.

Octavo. 190 x 135 mm. 318, [2, blank] pages + 30 pages of publisher's catalog, dated Winter 1924 + [1, imprint], [1, blank] pages. Presentation copy, inscribed, "To / Hugh Goodson / from / Violet Tweedale" to front free endleaf recto. Publisher's gray cloth ruled in blind, with spine titling in black. Light edgewear, corners bumped, head and tail pushed with some fraying, scattered staining. Text block edges toned and heavily foxed, pencil notations to front pastedown. Pages foxed throughout, mainly to margins and gutter. Very good.
