London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1887. First edition, large paper issue. One of 25 copies, this being no. 21. Octavo. 213 x 137 mm. [12], 119, [1, ad] pages. Brown pictorial wrappers printed in red and black, somewhat soiled, spine sunned, remnant of spine paper label, scattered staining to lower cover, crinkling along edges, pencil notation to top of upper cover. Text block edges toned, all edges untrimmed, 18 mm tear to fore-edge of final leaf, pencil notation to rear blank verso, heavy off-setting to pages 6 and 7. Very good.

Seaside Library, No. 126. Octavo. 191 x 130 mm. 132, [2, ads], [ii, ads] + 24 pages of ads. Original pictorial wrappers, lacking bottom left corner of from wrapper and tail, soiled, dampstaining affecting gutters of first and last few leaves, scattered staining. Text block toned, top edge untrimmed, scattered staining and thumbing, chipping and numerous small tears to top edge with some losses, not affecting text. Fair.
