John Alexander Logan (1826-1886) was a U.S. soldier and politician. He served in the Mexican-American War as a second lieutenant; in the Civil War, he rose to the rank of major general and won a Medal of Honor for the Vicksburg Campaign. Between the wars, he earned his law degree and served in the Illinois state legislature. Later, Logan served as: a member of the United States House of Representatives from Illinois (1859-1862, 1867-1870); a member of the United States Senate (1871-1886); and as James G. Blaine's Vice Presidential running mate in 1884.
Condition: Paint surface is chipped at upper and lower left and bottom; the inpainting in these areas is noticeable upon close inspection but is mostly all outside the facial features. The varnish has been removed. Otherwise good.
