George Washington: Classic "Memorable Era" 1789 Inaugural Brass Shank Button. Like so many, this is an excavated example, and the shank is missing on reverse. However, the surface exhibits only light porosity and irregularity, and the original patina is relatively pleasing. All in all, a very acceptable specimen for the collector who cannot afford the high five-figure prices that top condition examples have recently been making at auction. Diameter: 32mm. From the U. I.
