Description
Large Group of Twelve American and British Revolutionary War-Era Newspapers. A series of beautiful and bright examples of Revolutionary War-era newspapers ripe with news on the war front, both in the colonies and overseas, including cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Boston, London, Salem and Paris. They feature numerous articles on the fight for American Independence, touching on standard war-time news, including troop and supply movements and political happenings, with contemporary advertisements, including extracts from letters by prominent military figures such as Benedict Arnold, Nathanael Greene, Horatio Gates, and Governor Abner Nash. A few notable articles discuss the Continentals defeat at the Battle of Camden, General Cornwallis' movements through North Carolina and Virginia, an (obviously incorrect) rumor that Washington resigned his commission and returned home to await a British pardon, a report concerning peace negotiations between the Cherokee and the United States, and Washington's proclamation of clemency.1) The Providence Gazette; and Country Journal: Containing the Freshest Advices, Foreign and Domestic.
