FIRST EDITION. 12mo. 192 pages. Original blindstamped brown cloth with spine gilt-lettered.

Braman covers twenty-five Texas counties and provides valuable information concerning sheep and cattle raising, taxation, legal rights of married women, etc. It also contains material on Texas Revolution land claims and other valuable data on the Republic of Texas and early statehood. Braman, a resident of Matagorda, gives the prospective settler a well-balanced view of Texas, with detailed coverage of land and legal matters, how to establish a cattle ranch, and an overview of each county. Braman wrote his guide to stimulate immigration among more established families from the older states and suggests that they organize emigrant companies. Overland and river routes from Galveston are provided.

Raines writes, "A good immigrants guide when issued, especially as to land matters."

Condition: Cloth slightly faded with a few small ink spots on the spine, minor staining and offsetting to the endpapers. Some foxing and staining throughout the text and edges.
