Description
Scarce Silver Civil War Provost Guard Badge with Intriguing ID. 1¾" diameter riband beautifully engraved with buckle at the bottom, inscribed "D. D. Bulman Provost Guard". The pierced star in the center is inscribed with the date 1864. T-bar pinback. Interestingly the back of the badge also exhibits neatly hand inscribed Masonic symbols. Our research has failed to uncover D. D. Bulman in Civil War military records, however, Durant D. Bulman, age 24, is listed as an assistant marshall in the 1870 census records in Buena Vista, King and Queen, Virginia, doubtless the same man. Doubtless Mr. Bulman returned to Virginia after the war, possibly after service at Fortress Monroe, which was the point of origin of many of these badges . Nice untouched patina, the pin and closure loop are missing, but the T-bar base for the pin is intact. Great example of this rare piece of Civil War insignia and especially desirable with this interesting ID.Auction Info
