Silhouette: "William Beaumaris Knipe, 5th Dragoon Guards", c. 1838, cut paper mounted on paper, 6.25" x 9.75", framed to an overall size of 10.25" x 13.75". The painting shows a young officer, Lieutenant William Beaumaris Knipe, of the 5th Dragoon Guards holding his saber. The silhouette is unsigned. It is mounted by a holographic note that reads, "Lt. W. B. Knipe 5th Drag. Gd / Birmingham 12th June 1838". Knipe reached the rank of captain before leaving the service in 1845.
