Description

Mid-Seventeenth Century Cromwellian Lobster Tail Burgonet. Fine untouched condition overall. Patina, generally dark with some scattered lighter areas. Left side of the visor with some minor damage and one small 1/2" crack at the back on the skull. Some scattered surface rust with no pitting. Adjustable nose piece retaining the original heart shaped adjusting screw. Interior with deep, dark untouched patina The leather reinforcing strip under the lobster tail is missing, while both earpieces retain their original leather and riveted interior fastening strips. Lower tip of the right earpiece with a small crack. Both pierced ear pieces in place with original leather attachments. Three section 'lobster tail' with the lower section terminating in a point. The exterior body of the helmet exhibits no pitting with just some old surface rust on the earpieces and a few other small scattered areas. Very fine, untouched example of this mid 17th century piece of European military headgear, with its origins in mid 17th century England.
