Description

C. 1810 Jacob Sell Littlestown, Pa. Full Stock Flintlock Rifle. 45" .50 caliber, octagon to round smoothbore barrel signed Jacob Sell in script. Sighted both front and rear, with the front sight being a low brass blade on brass base, the rear being a dovetailed V. Barrel with nice smooth dark patina. The gun is a reconversion using the original Sell handmade lock. Gun shows heavy use and exhibits a number of repairs. Old sheet brass repair encircling the wrist. The side plate is a nicely done replacement and the wood around the side plate has been repaired. The oval cheekpiece inlay is missing, there is a 1" X 1 1/2" replaced piece at the toe of the butt, also nicely done, and a hairline from the front pipe to the barrel. The ramrod is a replacement. Still a good representative example of the work of this very important maker and certainly worthy of proper restoration.
