Description
Lot of Civil War Period Carvings Done by Private John A. Bair, Co. B, 45th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. The group consists of four wooden carved chains, two sections measuring about 5" and two measuring about 12". On one of the longer sections he has carved a battle or engagement he participated in on the edge of each link including "Wilderness", "Annapolis", "Hanover", "James River" and several others. Also included are two wooden "whimsies" and a Victorian sewing box with a crude inscription on the inside of the lid: "John Bair/ 45th Co. B/ Pennsylvania".
