Description

Bavarian Model 1845 Enlisted Infantry or Jäger Raupenhelm. A complete and handsome example of a rare Bavarian army helmet model which went through several pattern changes until about 1868. This example, a Model 1845, is complete with brass chin scales, lion's head mounts, one-piece stamped front plate, and the correct Bavarian blue and white single cockade mounted on the left side of the helmet. The original sheepskin "raupe" is loose but still properly attached to the black leather helmet body. The leather liner with six pointed tongues is complete and in very good condition and a perfect candidate for restoration. The helmet body displays the usual crazing and typical of this era of helmet, it is slightly misshapen, however, the helmet is on balance in excellent condition. The consignor indicates that this helmet was acquired in Germany by a US. Army officer serving in the Constabulary in the immediate post-WWII occupation.
