Apollo 17 Flown "Aitken" Map from the "CSM Lunar Landmark Map Book" Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Gene Cernan, Signed and Certified. A three-hole punched 8" x 10.5" lunar map on photographic paper, image size 8" x 8.75". On the verso is attached a 4" x 3.375" label; it states (beneath an Apollo 17 mission insignia): "The Eugene A. Cernan Space Collection/ The crew used this flown Apollo 17/ - CSM Lunar Landmark Map - / to study the Moon from lunar orbit/ [signed] Gene Cernan/ Eugene A. Cernan/ Apollo 17 Commander". This page was removed from the complete CSM Lunar Landmark Maps book with a part number of "SKB32100123-322" and serial number "1001". Included is an 11" x 8.5" color photo of Gene Cernan holding the complete flown book against a beautiful background photo of the Apollo 17 CM America orbiting the moon. The caption reads: "Eugene A. Cernan, who was the Apollo 17 mission commander and the last man to walk on the Moon,/ holds the Apollo 17 'Lunar Landmark Map Book' from which the accompanying 'Aitkin' map plate originated." The crater shown in this lunar map is a large lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon, named for Robert Grant Aitken, an American astronomer.
