Description
Apollo 11: Archive of Individually Signed Letters from Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, Regarding Apollo 11 Collotype Images Process. Very interesting group of material pertaining to a potential project in which iconic images from the Apollo 11 mission would be printed using the gelatin-based collotype process. As follows:Neil Armstrong: Two letters, dated July and October of 1976, sent on Lorian, Inc. letterhead in response to the invitation to participate in the program. The letters seem mostly agreeable to the project and are signed at close in blue ink: "Neil A Armstrong", and "Neil Armstrong". A third letter dated November 1976 appears to be a bit more skeptical and does not include a signature. Likely a gesture to indicate that he was not interested in pursuing the project.
Buzz Aldrin: Letter dated September 1976, on Research and Engineering Consultants Inc. letterhead, in which Aldrin expresses interest in the project. Signed at close in black ink: "Edwin E. Aldrin Jr.".
Michael Collins: Letter dated August 1976, on National Air and Space Museum letterhead, in which Collins expresses interest in the project as well. Signed at close in black ink: "M Collins".
Also included are five vintage NASA transparencies of iconic images including the "Visor" shot as well as image of Armstrong and Aldrin planting the American flag on the lunar surface. An incredibly unique archive that draws back the curtain a bit on professional correspondence from these legendary astronauts. Includes unique signature forms for both Armstrong and Aldrin. Very fine.
