Richard Gordon Owned and Used Orange Insulated Flight Suit.
An original U.S. military-specification Type CWU-1/P flight
coveralls in vivid safety orange nylon, featuring full-length
central zipper, multiple zippered utility pockets at chest, thigh,
and ankle, and snap-flap waist adjusters. Manufacturer's interior
label reads:"COVERALL, FLYING, MEN'S/TYPE CWU-1/P MIL-C-25786A
(USAF)/SIZE MEDIUM SHORT/STOCK NO. 8415-818-7357/24 OCT 1960/OLIVE
HILL MFG CO./" On the left chest, written boldly in black felt tip
by the astronaut:"My winter flight suit!/Richard Gordon/Apollo
XII". This orange CWU-1/P flight coverall type was standard
issue to U.S. Navy and NASA astronauts for cold-weather T-38 jet
flights, altitude chamber training, and crew ferry operations from
the mid-1960s through early Apollo. Very fine.
