Description

James V. Cazort 1968 Typed Letter Signed in Response to Armstrong's Request for Updates to the Bell H-13 Helicopter Operator's Manual, Directly from The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. Two pages, one a DA Form 200 (8" x 5.25") used as transmittal , the other a full page (8" x 10.5") TLS, dated April 1, 1968, reading, in full:

"1. Unusable fuel for the OH-13H was determined by Bell Helicopter Co. to be 12 lbs. (2 gals.) as delivered to the Army. Bell Helicopter test indicates most unusable fuel quantity is aft e.g. hovering flight, not single pilot high forward speed condition. Usable fuel for the OH-13H is 41 gals. with the remaining fuel quantity considered as unusable fuel.

"2. Single pilot operation should not result in a difference between left and right tank fuel quantity if the helicopter is properly rigged, but, if the helicopter is improperly rigged, the pilot can maintain a level flight attitude by cyclic stick displacement.

"3. Fuel quantity can vary due to tank manufacturing tolerances. This is true of all aircraft fuel tanks. The normal servicing data column in table 2-5, page 2-23, will be deleted to prevent misconstrued normal servicing figures used to determine unusable fuel quantity.

"4. This Command has determined that it is not necessary to include your recommended notes due to the above information. However, a future change or revision to TM 55-1520-204-10 will reflect changes as noted in paragraph 3 above.

"5. Submission of your letter is solicited and appreciated. If this Command may be of further assistance, please advise. Attached are DA Forms 2028 for future correspondence of discrepancies."

Staple holes, otherwise very fine. Sealed in numbered archival sleeves, CAG 1000104-021 & 1000104-022. See adjacent lot for the original request by Armstrong. This lot will include Statements of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
