Description
Ex. Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 11: David Johnson Signed Limited Edition "Reflection"
Silk Screen Print, also Signed by Alan Bean, Gene Cernan, and Al
Worden, Presented to and Originally from the Personal Collection of
Buzz Aldrin, with Certificate of Authenticity. A magnificent
and unique 48" x 48" serigraph on heavy acrylic-primed canvas, a
mixed-media presentation of the Apollo 11 lunar landing with
overprinted images from period newspapers surrounding the famous
"visor" image of Buzz Aldrin on the moon. It is boldly and hugely
signed by three Apollo astronauts in gold on the front: "Gene
Cernan/ Apollo X/ Apollo XVII", "Al Worden/ Apollo 15",
and "Alan Bean/ Apollo 12". This was the copy that was
presented to Aldrin as noted on the verso: "Presented to/ Colonel
Buzz Aldrin/ London/ October 2007". These silk screens are rare and
seldom offered. This would make an incredible addition to any space
collection, especially as it was presented directly to Aldrin. Two
tiny holes at bottom corners apparently from production, mounted on
wooden frame ready to hang, overall excellent. On the back of the canvas is printed the following: "One of a numbered limited edition of 24 (12 in each colourway) Moonwalker signed mixed-media serigraphs (silk screen print). No two are identical, each hand-printed and finished on acid-free acrylic-primed canvas to ensure maximum longevity. This silk screen printing process was made famous by Andy Warhol and since his demise very few artists remain dedicated to the unique medium. With the 40th anniversary of the landing of 'Eagle' approaching, internationally acclaimed silk screen artist David Johnson conceived and produced this series of prints with the assistance of Steven Pidcock who also made available the original newspapers from July 1969 which provide both the moon surface detail and a fascinating insight into the way this historic event was reported at the actual time. Multiple Astronaut-signed original serigraph artwork has never been available before and the originality of this work, the small edition number and the fact that they are hand-signed by Moonwalkers ensures their investment value and collectability. No other signed editions of this artwork will ever be made available for purchase in the future. Each Astronaut signatory (Colonel Aldrin, Captain Bean, Captain Cernan) was presented with an example bearing his name and an un-numbered example was auctioned for charity in October 2007. The remaining numbered and signed pictures were made available after the destruction of the original silk screen. The artists hope that these artworks will continue to inspire future generations and stand as a testament not only to the heroic achievements of all Astronauts but also to those many unknown men and women, the workers, contractors and support personnel, without whom the American space adventure would not have been possible. This artwork is dedicated to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in a nation's pursuit of the greatest feat of exploration that humanity has, thus far, achieved."
