Apollo 11 Flown American Flag with Presentation Certificate
Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module
Pilot Michael Collins, Certified and Signed. A 5.75" x 4" silk
U.S. flag with a 10" x 12" color certificate printed with the
words: "This Flag Traveled to the Moon with Apollo 11, the First
Manned Lunar Landing, July 20, 1969/ APOLLO 11/ July 16-24, 1969/
Armstrong - Collins - Aldrin". Printed on the lower area is the
Apollo 11 mission insignia. Beneath that is printed the immortal
words Armstrong spoke as he stepped onto the moon's surface: "One
small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." Collins has
signed the flag on the fourth and fifth white stripes: "Carried
to the Moon on Apollo XI/ July 1969 - Michael Collins CMP".
This flag accompanied Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins on their epic
journey to the Moon and back, making it an extremely desirable
American flag personally certified by a member of the Apollo 11
crew. While Apollo 11-flown flags are among the most coveted of all
spaceflight relics, examples that are signed, inscribed, and
directly from a crew member's personal collection are even more so.
This particular flag was retained by Collins as part of his
personal mementos from the mission, later released with his signed
provenance. Flag pristine and unfaded; certificate bright and
exceptionally well-preserved, with only minor corner and edge wear
typical of age, very fine.
