Description

Ex. Gene Cernan
"Albany, Australia" and "Cape Naturaliste & Cape Leeuwin, Australia"

Apollo 10 Flown Double-Sided "Landmark Tracking Chart" Map Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Gene Cernan, Certified and Signed. Printed color map, 10.5" x 8", three-hole punched, signed on the front in black ink: "Flown To The Moon on Apollo X/ Gene Cernan/ Apollo X LMP". The maps show the southwestern coast of Australia, used as part of NASA's Apollo Landmark Tracking Series. These charts were carried aboard Apollo missions to assist with visual Earth and lunar navigation using onboard sextant optics and window observation. Each chart includes precise latitude, longitude, and elevation data, together with NASA-issued reference tabs and coordinate grids for spacecraft navigation practice.

Cernan served as Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 10, the critical "dress rehearsal" mission for the first Moon landing, conducted in May 1969. The mission descended to within 8.4 nautical miles of the lunar surface, testing all systems except the final landing itself. Cernan would later command Apollo 17, becoming the last human to walk on the Moon in December 1972. Extremely fine.

Printed by the Army Map Service (AMS) in cooperation with NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center, each map was issued in small quantities for specific missions, making surviving flight-certified examples quite rare, especially those tied to named astronauts and confirmed flight use.
