Description
Ex. Gordon Cooper
Gemini 12 Flown Gold-Colored Silver Fliteline Medallion
Originally Crew-Presented to Mission Back-up Commander Gordon
Cooper, with His Signed Letter of Authenticity. This 25mm medal
flew aboard Gemini 12 with crewmembers James Lovell and Buzz
Aldrin, November 11-15, 1966. It features the mission insignia on
the obverse with the Roman numeral "XII" at the twelve o'clock
position and the Gemini capsule positioned like a clock's hour
hand. This was the final Gemini flight and the crescent moon at
left symbolizes the ultimate goal of the space program. The
surnames of the astronauts are also on the obverse with the dates
of the mission engraved on the reverse. One of the nicest examples
Heritage has offered, extremely desirable. The LOA on Cooper's letterhead reads as follows:
"This gold plated sterling silver medallion flew on the flight of Gemini XII during November 11 to 15, 1966. I was back-up commander for the flight crew of James Lovell and Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin. Gene Cernan was the back-up pilot. Gene and I mirrored the prime crew's training plus did trouble shooting of many flight issues.
"Gemini XII docked with an Agena target vehicle and Buzz made a few spacewalks. We finally figured out how to do spacewalks right by that time and Buzz performed his assigned tasks beautifully.
"Jim and Buzz presented a very limited number of these medallions to several of us who played an important role in supporting their flight. Gemini XII brought a successful end to the Gemini Program.
"[signed] Gordon Cooper
