Description
Apollo 11 Flown Kapton Foil in Lucite Directly from the Estate of NASA Legend Chris Kraft, with Certificate of Authenticity. A 1" square piece of Mylar sealed in a 2.25" diameter x 1" tall Lucite cylinder with "APOLLO II/ MYLAR/ COMMAND MODULE/ THERMAL COATING" engraved on the bottom. Kapton foil is a thin Mylar material used to line the outer walls of the command module and plays a critical role in reflecting the sun's intense heat away from the spacecraft as it re-enters Earth's atmosphere. Due to its fragile nature, most of the foil usually burns off the ship on reentry, but small pieces often survive. A great memento from the most memorable mission in NASA's history.
