Ex. Charlie Duke

Charlie Duke's Owned and Used Training Geology Kit, Signed and Certified, Directly from His Personal Collection. An intriguing kit comprised of a rock pick; U. S. Department of the Interior Geological Survey issued Loose-Leaf Field Notebook; and D. W. Brunton manufactured pocket transit. All items are housed in a vintage "Roy Gfeller" leather belt and carrying kit on which Duke has written in bold black felt tip: "Geology Kit Used/ From 1966 To The End Of/ 1972/ Charlie Duke/ Apollo 16". The first six pages of the notebook feature extensive handwritten notes from Duke's training for lunar surface EVAs.

Prior to the mission moonwalkers John Young and Charlie Duke performed extensive geological training along with backup commander Fred Haise. Apollo 16 was one of three J Missions of the Apollo program with the objective of "Extensive scientific investigation of Moon on lunar surface and from lunar orbit" according to the Apollo Program Summary Report. A rare opportunity to own extensively used training tools directly from the personal collection of a moonwalker. Included with this lot is a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Charlie Duke. Age related wear, overall fine.
