Description

Collection of Civil War Souvenirs Taken by William B. Greene of the 2nd United States Sharpshooters. Greene, a native of Raymond, New Hampshire, mustered into "G" Company of the 2nd Sharpshooters at the age of 18 on December 12, 1861. He mustered out on May 29, 1865 at Concord, New Hampshire. The 2nd USS fought during the Peninsular Campaign, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. It's unknown exactly where Greene picked up this diverse collection of items, but items include a .25 cent bill of Mississippi and Tennessee Railroad Company currency, an 1856 dated receipt from the Alexandria, Virginia company Peel & Stevens, a spend lead bullet, and a canvas flag or guidon holder.
